Carbon, manganese, silicon, very small amounts of phosphorous, sulfur, and very small amounts of phosphorus and sulfur make up the remainder of its composition. In terms of welding, corrosion resistance, and anti-oxidation properties, Stainless Steel 304 has a well-balanced composition.
Whereas, Austenitic stainless steel, Alloy 316 Tube in South America combines chromium, nickel, and molybdenum to provide increased corrosion resistance to Alloy 304 Tube in moderately corrosive environments. Often, it is used in chloride or halide-containing process streams. The addition of molybdenum improves corrosion and chloride pitting resistance, as well as creep and stress-to-rupture strength at elevated temperatures. The alloy 316 Tubes works hardening during deformation, but most importantly it is chip brittle. The best machine results are obtained with slow speeds and heavy feeds, good lubrication, sharp tools, and high-performance rigid equipment.
