Stainless Steel 455 Sheets (UNS S45500) and Stainless Steel 455 Plates are martensitic steels with corrosion resistance similar to type 430, exhibiting good strength and ductility when cold worked. They may be hardened by heat treatment for enhanced strength. These alloys are used extensively in applications that require superior strength and wear resistance such as cutlery and hand tools, gears and cams, pumps, paper mill machinery parts, aerospace components, petrochemical refinery equipment, oil field components; valve parts, etc.

These sheets have excellent forming properties and they can be easily welded using conventional welding methods. Other characteristics of these sheets include high-temperature oxidation resistance, creep strength, good ductility, and formability.

Stainless Steel 455 Sheets are generally used in applications involving organic and mineral acids, marine environments, and high-temperature services where high strength is required. These sheets provide excellent corrosion resistance to a wide variety of corrosive media including reducing acids such as sulfuric acid, acetic acid, phosphoric acid, and nitric acid. This alloy also provides excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
